COLOMBIA
The culture of the vine in Colombia was introduced between 1920 and 1940.
It started in the valley Cauca, in the zone suroccidental,
with the plantation of the small extensions which, later, extended to other zones.
In this manner, during the year 1932, there were vineyards
with Antioquia, Santander, Tolima and Sainte Marta.
Previously, as it arrived in all the areas colonized by Spain,
there are vestiges of its introduction since the beginning of century XVI.
The principal zone of production of grape in Colombia is located
along the valley Cauca, in its high course,
with a length of 280 kilometers and 20 km broad.
One second zone is localized in the north of the country,
as Santa Marta, with a more tropical climate.
There exist vineyards of more reduced size in the
Boyacá departments and of Tolima,
while those of Cundinamarca are confidential.

INDIA

The vine growing is well a tradition in India,
it became an marketing activity only at beginning of the year 70.
Between 1990 and today, she knew a very fast expansion,
passing 25000 ha to 58000 ha currently (2006),
dedicated almost exclusively to the production of table grapes
(varieties derived from the Sultanine, called locally Thompson Seedless).
The production was of 1.47 million tons in 2004.
Whereas there are 10 or 15 years, the international experts
doubted the possibility of producing wines of quality
under the Indian conditions, progress of the last years showed
the opposite and revealed real qualitative potentialities,
in spite of the local conditions of very particular culture
(tropical vine growing without winter vegetative rest).

Enjoy, weekly!
